A Little About Me

A little about me. I was born Elizabeth Ann Thompson in Manhattan, Kansas April 3, 1957.

I later changed my name to Akilah Monifa. My goddaughter could not pronounce my first name, she called me Kiki, the nickname stuck.

So that’s why I am kiki1957 on substack.

My short bio: I am a 67 year old Blesbian (Black lesbian (a phrase I take credit for coining like Bill Belamy is credited with coining the phrase “booty call”) retired mother/grandmother writer/blogger/podcaster/performer.

I have two children ages 21 and 23, my family was formed through open adoption.

My granddaughter is almost 3 years old and calls me grandma.

I graduated from high school in Huntsville, Alabama and started college at Emory University, took a year off to travel and be an au pair in Europe and then transferred to State University of New York at Binghamton where I graduated and majored in history.

I graduated from the University of Santa Clara School of law. I took the California bar exam a couple of times and did not pass.
